When you go wearing a back hat like in the Harry Potter movies :)
Its been a long long time since i met him...he is one of two people who inspired my interest in computers and what they can do...college days gone by...he was the best programmer in our batch of electronics students...and as i predicted it (and all others!)...he still is just the same...driven by excellence in everything he does...kind of reminds me of the google ceo when i look at him...introducing my college computing guru amongst all students when it came to programming these dumb machines...life has been difficult for both of us...for different reasons...i guess we had to run the path in life that we did...eight months of advanced research in that dark corner of park city trying to understand how the system works...led me to a different set of life rules than him...i left...he was far far away with his own set of challenges...he didn't...i can only imagine how his digital fingerprint must have grown over the past sixteen years...today he is an advisory position to the firm he works with for projects they are trying to bring up quietly for securing the future of many clients who need defending from cyber attacks...as our conversation started...most people don't understand that the anti-virus could be the virus do they i said :) he was kind enough to look at me and smile..."you've grown taller and wiser over the years" he said...i did request him to read up @war...interesting book for one of his likes...in today's world of cyber security...i often "thank" the cyber cells in India for being terribly understaffed(no hard feelings...i like cyber cells)...as i look at him i'm more convinced that those dumb computing machines are more responsible for detecting intrusion than a human monitor can ever be...but then the human monitor is just as necessary...simple image like the doodle for the day can super elevate the browser to give selective control to the cyber attacker...that is where you need "human" intervention...you need to draw the line for the visitors...and slow them down a little...and then they crib about not enough talent to fill positions in cyber security in India...what the heck are the engineering grads of today doing with their knowledge...? We hope that as every persons digital signature increases the need for protecting their data will be at an all time high...that's where never heard of private firms like his come in...they let attackers penetrate the network by letting them in...and then they feed them good looking garbage...all the time while keeping the visitors in a DMZ...very interesting concept (of which i have been at the receiving end a long time ago...while he was at the designing end a long time ago...!!! exploration has its own "sweet" paybacks...!!!)...i asked him where they were planning to show case their technique...he said its only a proto right now with a very mischievous smile...i felt free while talking to him...an open conversation after a very very long and silent time...after all i guess that's what friends are for...we never speak for years...but when we meet its entertaining to say the least :) some times i feel robbed of sixteen years of possible technology exposure in the US...then again there is someone big and bright that reminds me that the keys to the matrix didn't come easy in those eight months in park city :) in that small moment i see the rainbow in a dark dark "day" and a bright bright "night".
